In 1965, Popular released its first musical special, dedicated to Puerto Rican composer Rafael Hernández. This was part of the inaugural celebration of Popular Center, its headquarters building in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. In 1993, Banco Popular's centennial year, the financial institution resumed its tradition of making musical productions, now on an annual basis.
In addition to promoting traditions, revenue from sales of the musical specials helps support organizations and schools with musical programs supported by Fundación Banco Popular's latest musical special, Ellas, mujeres en la Música, takes us through the story of "Ella", a woman who has lost her inspiration and finds it through stories and musical encounters with renowned Puerto Rican artists.
Singers such as Lucecita BenÃtez, Milly Quezada, Ile, Melina León, Chamir Bonano, La India, Nydia Caro, Yolandita Monge, Son Divas, Chabela RodrÃguez, Ana Isabelle, Villano Antillano, Didi Romero, among other Puerto Rican artists, take us through a story about musical inspiration. This CD version of the musical special includes additional songs, not included on the DVD.
